A bit about
Kearney High School is the first school in the State of Nebraska to operate wall-to-wall career academies known as Small Learning Communities (SLCs). Students do extensive research during their freshmen and sophomore years to hone in on career fields that they want to explore. At the beginning of the junior year ALL students choose an SLC, where they focus their attention on broad career fields. Students complete job interviews, perform job shadows, participate in internships, and create a portfolio of their learning. Our goal through the SLC process is help ALL students reach their potential and make curriculum relevant to their future endeavors.
